To say that vocal sensation Jordan John is a more powerful and polished lead vocalist and multi-instrumentalist than many players twice his age would tell just a fraction of the story. He has already compiled a longer list of credits, and displays more assuredness and maturity, than many performers twice his age. Adept on drums, keyboards, guitar and bass, he distills the blues, soul and rhythm & blues into a sound that is both solidly traditional and a bold departure from the electronically generated music that has saturated the pop charts in recent years.
Be it performing in front of 20,000 + as a lead singing, guitar wielding frontman, opening for The Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin (at her personal request), jamming at age 16 on drums with the artist formally known as Prince, singing the American National Anthem at the 2011 Toronto Honda Indy, performing as interim bassist for famed Canadian rock trio, Wide Mouth Mason, Jordan’s talent and energy is sure to delight and amaze both avid and casual music listeners.
He has garnered praise and ringing endorsements from the who’s who of the music industry. Some names include legendary, world renown producer David Foster, Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds, John Mayall, Steve Jordan, Keith Richards, Robbie Robertson to name but a few. For many, these accolades and accomplishments would take a life time to accumulate. For Jordan, it only took ‘till age 25. With a pedigree of that astonishing calibre, you may begin to register the proper amount of astonishment his musicality can command.
Yet Jordan is far from an overnight sensation. He already has more than a decade of experience as a sideman for a wide variety of artists visiting the Toronto area and more recently, fronting his own bands. He began performing professionally on drums as a teenager. At first, he was introduced to other musicians by his father, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame bassist Prakash John. Prakash's career dates back to legendary 1960’s Toronto bands Bush and Mandala. In the 1970’s, he recorded and toured with George Clinton & The Parliament Funkadelic, Lou Reed and Alice Cooper, then returned to found Canada's funkiest and slickest R&B band, the Lincolns.
But it wasn't long before artists began clamouring for Jordan specifically. He's backed Jeff Healey, Prince, Burton Cummings, Wide Mouth Mason, Lucky Peterson, Matt Schofield and many more. And he's opened shows for such heavyweights as Aretha Franklin, Booker T. Jones, Ray Charles, Johnny Winter and Robert Cray.
Jordan continues to win over fans at the highest levels in the music business. Based solely on Jordan's blistering, groove-infused opening set for Aretha Franklin at the 2011 Toronto Jazz Festival, music legend David Foster, chairman of Universal Music's iconic Verve label, signed him to a multi-album deal at the beginning of 2012. While only with Verve Records until the beginning of 2013, an amicable parting of the ways led Jordan to a favourable, financial buy out of his deal which included funding for his first solo recording.
With his debut album, ‘New Day’ being released in the summer of 2013, the future looks bright for this emerging Canadian talent as he embarks on his first foray into the international market with industry interest aplenty and fan support ever growing.
Delivering a refined essence of traditional based Blues, Soul & Rhythm ‘n Blues, this musical dynamo adds a breath of fresh air to the contemporary music landscape. Only time will tell what the future holds for this rising star. What is certain is that the results will be potent, powerful and positive... the soul stirring revelation that is the music of Jordan John.
As an extra added attraction Prakash John will be accompanying Jordan.
