While Vaughan remains an inspiration and Cummings shares certain elements of his style, primarily tone and their likeminded explosiveness, Cummings is not an SRV clone. And, as evidenced by his 7 CD’s to date, Cummings mixes Country – not surprising given his Bluegrass background – and good old Rock & Roll with his Blues while telling his everyman stories in song.
Those everyman stories are centred on struggling to make ends meet financially, domestically, and emotionally. But in doing so, Cummings always finds time to party. For proof, check out the unbridled joy and blazing guitar breaks found on his live, fittingly titled CD, Feel So Good. Here he maneuvers through titles including “Party Right Here”, “Blues Make Me Feel So Good”, Zep’s “Rock & Roll”, and an impressive medley combining Muddy Waters’ “Hoochie Coochie Man” and Little Feats’ “Dixie Chicken”.
In sum, Albert Cummings is the consummate entertainer. He can effectively weave stories that everyone can relate to, he can sing convincingly, and he can mesmerize with dazzling solo excursions.
