Frank Bang
Chicago guitarist Frank Bang makes his first major Canadian appearance at Violet’s Venue on Saturday October 10th.
It’s been a proverbial “long and winding road” for Bang (whose real surname is Blinkal) from his teen years as an aspiring rock guitarist to where he is today – a talented, in demand Blues / Rock / Country artist leading his trio Secret Stash.

Bang discovered Blues when he started frequenting the local Chicago haunts at age 21. But it wasn’t until a fortuitous meeting with Stevie Ray Vaughan while working in the employ of Hard Rock Café in Houston, (one of a number of vocational and educational ventures for Bang), that a musical path came into view. Hearing that Bang was from Chicago, Vaughan steered him to Buddy Guy, Junior Wells, and Albert Collins as well as other Chicago greats.
Working as a doorman at Buddy Guy’s Legends, Frank got to experience and meet a virtual who’s who of the Blues scene and started taking notes that he would flesh out after hours at the club and soon after would display at the club’s Monday night Jam session. In doing so, he caught the owner’s eye and began a 5 year apprenticeship manning the second guitar chair in Guy’s band starting in 2000.
Bang’s guitar playing certainly developed during this time but it wasn’t until he started emulating the true to life song writing style of artists like John Hiatt to go along with his musicianship and vocals that he matured as a full-fledged artist.
Bang will be referencing selections from his 4 CD’s to date, including his latest Double Dare, at Violet’s.
